Empire State Building Will Be Green
The 1931 Art Deco skyscraper will be getting a retrofit to reduce energy consumption.
This will be a massive upgrade to reduce greenhouse emissions in New York.
The goal will be to replace all the windows all 6,500 with retrofit eco-friendly ones.
The 20 million dollar upgrade is part of a 500 million dollar cost of refurbishment that is underway.
By 2013, this upgrade and the rest of the refurbishment will bring in an annual savings of 4.4 million dollars in "green" savings to the skyscraper.
The Empire State Building is most famous for being tall, 102 floors ending with a many-colored, illuminated spire.
In the near future it will also be known as a Green Giant.
